When you think of Vermont, of course you
think of maple syrup and this past year the very cherry
owners Cheryl and Terry restored their 1779 sugar
house. Although dormant for many sugaring seasons, the
200 year old sugar house was built to last on a natural
granite slab and all repairs were made to boil syrup the
old fashioned way amid the 83 acre sugar woods.
This March, they gathered sap along steep mountain
trails narrow from disuse. Terry's team of Belgian draft
horses, Otis and Doc, hauled the gathering tank on an
antique sleigh that Terry rebuilt from parts found at
the sugar house last fall. In all, friends and family
put out 900 buckets to empty by hand into the gathering
tank daily!
You may have noticed that Cherry Tree Hill has added a
new colorway to their line up called Sugar Maple to
commemorate the restoration. Now, we are also
offering lithographed tins of their own maple syrup,
compliments of Doc and Otis. These limited edition cans
come with gift tags tied with yarn dyed in the colorway
Sugar Maple and are a perfect surprise sweet treat for
tucking into basket or knitting bag of yarn.
